本報看重讀者們的親子關係，藉著父母與孩子學習英語的時刻，增加他們溝通的機會。使用這教材的方法如下：
（一）請你與孩子一起朗讀內容及本月金句；
（二）透過所閱讀的內容，引導孩子分享他們的看法和經歷，藉此提升他們的品格及學習如何與人相處；
（三）又鼓勵你的孩子完成以下的練習，於1月31日前寄回本報，我們將寄上一份小禮物。

Turn over a new leaf 覺悟前非 從新開始
Mary: Helen, I’m feeling quite upset these days. I don’t even want to get up for school in the morning!
瑪莉：海倫，我最近的心情壞透了。我甚至早上不想起來上學！
Helen: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that! But what has happened to you? Why do you feel so bad recently?
海倫：聽到你這樣說我很難過，近來發生了甚麽事令你這麽沒精打采？
Mary: Well, I think it’s because I got poor results in my English test. Worse still, there is no hope for me to be chosen as the “Best Student of the Year”!
瑪莉：我想這是因為我的英文測驗成績不理想；更糟糕的是，我今年獲得「品學兼優生」的目標，必定無望了！
Helen: Don’t be sad, Mary! It’s just the beginning of the second term. May be it’s time for you to look at things that you can improve.
海倫：瑪莉，別這樣沮喪！現在只是下學期的開始而已，或許這正是時候讓妳好好檢討過去，想想有甚麽地方是可以改進的。
Mary: I know I’ve been lazy! I watch too much TV, play too many computer games but read too few books! I need to turn a new leaf and start to spend more time on my studies.
瑪莉：我知道我一直在躲懶，整天只管看電視、玩遊戲機，卻不多閱讀！看來，我實在需要覺悟前非，從新開始，多花時間讀書才是！

studies（noun名詞）學業
Tips: If you prefer ‘a page’ to ‘a leaf’, you may also say ‘turn a new page’.
小貼士：你也可以用「頁」字來代替「葉」字，所以你可以說“turn a new page”來代替“turn a new leaf”。
e.g. The two governments are eager to “turn a new page” in their relations.
例句：兩國政府渴望在他們的關係上能夠翻開新的一頁。
